Helping Hands

Firstly I must thank you for your help in contacting other Elk users. These contacts have now enabled me to upgrade my system to both DFS and ADFS with both 3.5" and 5.25" disks. My special thanks must go to Ray Thomas, Derek Walker and William Woodall. My thanks also to all the other people who wrote to me with help and advice.

Now for my next problem. I have a copy of the Acornsoft Database on 3.5" disk. However, it has been corrupted, and I hadn't got round to making a back-up copy. If anyone has this disk, please let me know and I will send them my original disk for them to put a copy onto.

The above is only an edited version of Howard's letter, which came with a disk containing several excellent programs. These include two versions of a morse code application. One is a tutor for the unexpanded Elk, the other a full blown package that requires 64K to run, which was modified by Ray Thomas. If you own a Plus 1, you will be able to use an analogue joystick with "Rainbow+1", Howard's impressive upgrade of the original key-driven drawing program of the original key-driven drawing program from Electron User.

Mr Guppy has also managed to produce a working version of the Letterhead design program; the original of which (Also from Electron User) seemed to cause a lot of problems for people. Howard is willing to supply any or all of these programs if you can supply a disk and return postage and packing. Nice to know that people are making contacts and solving problems!

I've had a number of letters from individuals who are now in touch with fellow electroneers. If you would like to correspond with other Elk users, just send your details including any special interests and it will be included in our new contacts column, the first of which appears in this issue.

Don't forget to keep the rest of us up to date with any useful info you might exchange! For anyone else contemplating adding a second disk system to their set up, The Best Of Both Worlds letter will be of great interest.
