MODE 7 SIMULATOR ROM
|
"Software simulations can never be as good as their hardware counterparts. Although this simulation isn't as good as the Mode 7 Display Unit, it performs extremely well. The software works by simulating a Mode 7 screen in Mode 2 - which leads to some problems."

What It Does
The Mode 7 Simulator ROM is a ROM chip which must be fitted into a suitable hardware expansion attached to the Acorn Electron. The ROM contains software to simulate Mode 7, the Teletext-styled screen mode available on the BBC Micro machines but not the Electron. Once active, the command MODE 7 enters a strange hybrid 'vertically squashed' Mode 2. The ROM also contains a Terminal program which can be used with an Electron sporting an RS423 port.
The Mode 7 Simulator ROM originally retailed at £25. It has not yet been spotted in an eBay auction, making it one of the rarest expansion ROMs ever produced for the Electron.
