Letterbugs

"Despite my reservations, I'll use these programs with my kids."
Electron User

Introduction

Remember when you were first learning to read?

How did you say the letters and build up simple words: c-a-t, s-a-t, m-a-t?

The READ RIGHT AWAY series is based on this traditional principle, helping your child to read in a systematic way, using what is called the phonic approach.

Each of the four READING PACKS in the series contains two separate programs which have been specifically designed by Psychologists and teachers to help your child progress naturally, at their own pace, to mastery of a wide range of reading skills.

The outstanding graphics and entertainment quality of these games will make your child eager to learn and progress through the series.

Sortout

You have a crane and two speedy workmen to help you sort five letters/ words into alphabetical order as quickly as possible. At the beginning of the game you can choose to sort:

a) Letters b) Words (by their first letter) c) Words (by their second letter)

If you choose (a) or (b) you can also choose the level:

a) Level 1 gives five letters/words in sequence and allows you to pick the start letter. b) Level 2 picks the letters/words at random (this level is automatically selected if you have chosen "Words by second letter").

The winner is the player who sorts five letters/words correctly in the fastest time. Move the letter/word up and down with the cursor keys on the right of the keyboard. Press RETURN when you think the letter/word is in the right position. Press ESCAPE to end the game.

Letterbugs

The aim of the game is to uncover eight words, that are hidden behind eight lines of coloured squares, before your time runs out (using the clue at the bottom of the screen to help you).

Each player has a "Letterbug" which has its own house with two rooms: The ? room shows the number of 'Looks' the player has left. The 'tick' room shows the player's score. Move your Letterbug with the four cursor keys. Once you have moved your Letterbug underneath a coloured square, you can:

a) 'Look' by pressing RETURN (if you have any 'Looks' left!)

b) Type the letter that you think s hidden underneath the square.

If you uncover a letter you have another go. If you finish uncovering a whole word, you score a point.

The winner is the player with the highest score at the end of the game. If there is a draw, the player with the most 'Looks' left wins.
